1988

The Spring, 1988 meeting was held in Scottsdale, Arizona. The host utility was Arizona Public Service and the host member was Jeff Burns. The meetings were held at the La Posada Inn. Approximately 20 investor-owned utilities were represented. It appeared that all the utilities represented formed marketing organizations - SCE prefers the term 'customer service' to 'marketing'. Cogeneration has all the utilities interested in determining options associated with this product. APS is also actively marketing industrial heat pumps as an option to cogeneration. The utility buys the pumps and the customer leases it from the utility. There was also a presentation on LODESTAR from the TASC representative.

The Fall, 1988 meeting was held in Honolulu, Hawaii. The host utility was Hawaiian Electric, and the member host was Kazuo Shirakawa. There were several excellent papers/presentations at this conference. The topics were as follows: Dr. Karen Kunkle, Sierra Pacific, Bridging the Gap Between Load Research, Alan Lloyd, Hawaiian Electric, Customer Reactive Power (VARS) - A Marketing Opportunity, Bruce Ramsay, Alberta Power, Adjustments of Load Survey Demand Estimates to System Demand, Brian Wegner, Pacific Power and Light, Cluster Analysis for Market Segmentation, Mary Ellen Nordyke-Grace, Hawaiian Electric, Experience with Remote Inter-Island Data Acquisition System, and Rich Gillman, BPA, End-Use Load And Consumer Assessment Project. These are only a selected few of the well-presented papers. One of the many highlights of this conference was visiting a wind farm on the North shore of Oahu.
